Properly Maintaining Your Gutters

It may seem like your gutters are not that important, and you keep putting off cleaning them until they’re full of leaves and constantly overflowing during heavy rains. But what you don’t know could be hurting you, and your wallet.
When you don’t properly maintain your gutters, it can have expensive side effects. The purpose of a rain gutter is to channel the rain away from your home so it runs out the bottom and onto the ground, not down the side of your house. Why? There are a number of reasons this is so important. The first is protecting the outside of your house. Water can rot away the wooden siding of your home, stain the outsides of the walls, and leak in through cracks or holes in your doors and windows. This can spell disaster down the road. You’ll have to pay some big bucks to get a wall or a door replaced. Even cleaning off mildew and mold can be a time-consuming hassle.
Another reason why cleaning gutters is so important is to protect the foundation of your home. If you constantly let water run over the edge of the gutters and soak into the ground around your house, it will eventually seep into your basement and even start eroding the very foundation away. Not only is this expensive to repair, your basement won’t be very fun to hang out in and you probably won’t notice the damage until it has become extreme and thus, hard to repair.
Last but not least, overflowing gutters can be a pain for you as well as your home. Leaving for work in the morning only to have an overflowing gutter dump a waterfall of rain onto your head is not the best way to start the day. Save yourself this and countless other hassles and make sure your gutters are properly cleaned. The easiest way to do this? Hire someone to do it for you.
If you don’t want to go through the annoyance of climbing up and cleaning out the gutters, or you’re simply too busy, you can always hire a professional to take care of the gutters for you. They’ll clean them out, make any necessary repairs, and give you advice on the easiest way to maintain and clean your gutters on your own. However you choose to clean them, make sure that you stick to it. The last thing you need is a little water spoiling a perfect day.
