The heart of any house usually resides in the kitchen. It is certainly the room that you spend most of your time in so it's important to make sure the design and functionality match your style and needs. One major way to achieve this is to decide what type and color combination of cabinets and countertop you want.

There are many types and colors of both cabinets and countertops so be sure to educate yourself about countertop and cabinet companies to be familiar with the products available and choose those that fit your budget and style.

Shop cabinets first
Cabinets are usually installed before the countertops so shop for the cabinets first. There are many designs, wood types and colors to choose from that will appeal to you and fit your budget. Choose cabinets that look good with your desired countertop color, if you have already chosen it, and decide if you want to blend, coordinate or use the cabinets as an accent color against your countertops. It is always a good idea to bring any samples of colors and or materials that you have already chosen to help in picking the right color and style cabinets.

Countertops
Choose your countertop material based on its strength and durability, burn-proof material, stain resistance and price to meet your budget. The color of your countertop will be strongly based on the desired material and what is available. However, there are many options out there so be sure it will coordinate with your cabinet style as well as color.

Contrast with color
There are many different materials used in a kitchen so complimenting or contrasting colors are just as important in the kitchen as in any part of your home. Consider the surrounding areas to match adjacent colors and themes as well. Consider color contrast like dark cabinets with light countertops. Or, you may decide to go with dark flooring, dark countertops and then a light wood cabinet or off-white cabinets to make them your focal point and to make the countertops really stand out as well.

Work with a professional
Work with a professional kitchen designer for best results and ideas to match the cabinets and countertops, while still using your personal preference for the final decision. When looking for countertops, experts such as Marblex design can allow you to visualize the color cabinets and countertops that suit your best.
