Glass Tiles Kitchen BacksplashKitchen Backsplash - Choosing the Correct Tile
Written by: Glass Tile Store | Date: Tuesday, 9th August 2011

Four Simple Tips for Choosing the Perfect Backsplash Tile

1) Look at your kitchen’s overall current color palette as a guide.

Based on the look and color of your kitchen cabinet finish, appliances and other decor we can choose what color tile would match best. For example, if you have a kitchen with dark wood, then a tile backsplash of white color may not be as appropriate. Ideally with light colored tile for example, it usually looks much better with lighter cupboards and finishes.

One rule of thumb is to avoid contrasting colors for a kitchen backsplash, doing so with create sharp areas of contrast. By matching the color of the tiles to your kitchen cabinet, you will create an illusion of a more sizable and solid kitchen cabinet.

2) Don’t follow trends.

There are enough different styles of glass tiles to suit any design budget and taste.  It’s very important to plan ahead and take your time when choosing your tile. Using specific tiles such as Glass tiles for example, will really stand out if you have under cabinet lighting.

3) Choose the correct tile size.

Choosing the correct tile size is very important. A large tile in a small room can and will make the room appear even smaller. For small rooms, small tiles work great.  For larger rooms you would want larger tiles such as subway tile to create the right feel of the large space. Small tiles will also work great if done in a mosaic style. Once mosaic tiles are set and grouted, they will have a nice uniform appearance.

4) Less is more with tile backsplashes.

Avoid kitchen backsplashes with too many colors and patterns. Trendier tile colors and patterns may appear nicer at first but eventually after time, a neutral backsplash will outlast the trends.
